OUR STAFF John Mitchell: Pastor | Brian Whitman: Worship Director
Duties: leading, preaching, teaching, shepherding Life began when: A friend introduced me to Jesus my senior year of high school. I have been growing in Him ever since, and long to follow Him more every day. Family: I married way over my head when I captured Deborah. We fell madly in love and got married while I was still in college. 22 years and six kids later, we still got the heat! Deborah and I have one son and five daughters. David lives in Chicagoland. I live with Deborah and the girls in melancholy manor, Phoenix Branch. I miss hanging with my son, but love being a dad to these beautiful young ladies. Beware gentlemen-my shotgun is loaded. History: Before obeying God's dramatic call to plant Poiema Church, Deborah and I spent 11 years with Campus Crusade for Christ. I earned an M.A. from Talbot Theological School during that period, after which, I pastored a Church in Washington state. Later, I became the pastor of evangelism and discipleship at a mega church in the Midwest. After several years, Deborah and I were compelled to plant a Church that would measurably penetrate and transform this generation for Jesus Christ. So here we are in Phoenix! Vision for Poiema: I deeply desire to walk with God, be transformed in His presence, and transform this world by pointing others to Him. I want to see more than footprints in the sand. I want my feet to join those who follow Jesus, and together reshape the landscape of culture by living and proclaiming His gospel. I pray that Poiema Church will be full of multiplying disciples who follow Jesus with reckless abandon, and unite to make an eternal difference for Him. Hobbies: Hanging out with Deborah, swimming with my girls, catching whatever time I can with my son, reading, eating with friends, preaching, wearing my favorite shirt, talking about Jesus, laughing a lot and doing it all over again the next day. Things I haven't yet done but would like to do: Jump out of an airplane (with a parachute); Get a (another) tattoo or two; Beat my son at paintball; Plant dozens of Church-planting Churches. | ||||
